2018 Season Outlook: Assistant Coach Darrien Moran's Perspective

03/28/2018 12:39 PM

Moran will enter his first season with the Bells as an assistant coach in 2018.  Moran currently serves as a volunteer assistant coach at Division II Western Oregon University.

Moran is in his first season on the coaching staff at Western Oregon University, specifically working with pitchers. He had a very successful career as a collegiate athlete at both the NWAACC (Pierce College) and GNAC (Western Oregon, Division II) level.

- How do you think our two returners (Yake and DeLaite) will impact the team and help the new players adjust to Bells baseball? In my years of playing and coaching it's huge when you can have older players around to help the new guys out. For people not used to it the summer can be a grind so having guys like them around to help lead the newcomers will be great!

- We have some new schools sending us players this year (Mississippi State, Pepperdine, Valpo, etc.), what kind of edge do you think these programs will bring to Bellingham this season? Having new programs send us guys this year is going to fun! New programs coming in means new philosophies and different ways that guys carry themselves on a day to day basis. Which will be a fun challenge for us as coaches to mold them into our summer philosophy.

- Which season series are you looking forward to most and why (Home or Away)? The season series I’m most looking forward to will probably be our first home series just because this is my first year coaching in the WCL so I am looking forward to the atmosphere that Bellingham has to bring!

- Are there any standouts on this year's roster that you think will be making a big impact on this summer's team? What makes you think they will be able to adjust to a busy summer schedule? Just looking at some of the names and schools that we are bringing guys from I know that they will be able to make an immediate impact. When schools like Mississippi State, UCLA, and Stanford are sending you players you know you will have some top tier competitors.

- What would you like our fans to know about the upcoming season? The fans should know that we all can't wait to get up to Bellingham and get the season rolling! Us coaches and players are going to work relentlessly this summer to hopefully bring home a WCL championship!

Don't forget to join Darrien, the rest of the coaching staff and team on June 4th, 2018 for Opening Day!
