Two More Maine Black Bears to Join the Returning DeLaite in 2018

04/02/2018 1:35 PM

The Bellingham Bells get players from all over the country to come and spend their summer in the Pacific Northwest, but no one has to travel farther than Peter Kemble and Cody Pasic, who will come to the Bells from the University of Maine.

Kemble and Pasic will join Bells’ returner, Trevor DeLaite as the trio of Black Bears to make the trip across the country for the summer.

“We are thrilled to be welcoming two more Black Bears to the Bells’ family,” Bells’ General Manager Stephanie Morrell said. “We have greatly enjoyed our connection with the University of Maine over the last several years and have come to rely on the fact that players from Maine will come to Bellingham ready to compete. We look forward to having Cody & Peter in Bellingham this summer!”

Kemble is a six-foot four-inch freshman pitcher out of Bangor High School in Maine where he enjoyed his best season as a senior.

As a senior in 2017, Kemble went 6-2 with a stunning ERA of just 0.13. He also struck out 68 in his 53 innings of work. Kemble also played outfield at the prep level and hit .304 with 10 runs batted in and 14 stolen bases.

He was a large reason why his high school was able to capture four consecutive state championship games.

Last season, Kemble played for the Boca Raton Blazers in the South Florida Collegiate League. The righty made seven appearances over the course of the 40-game season and pitched 7.2 innings allowing 11 hits while striking out 3.

The Black Bears have called upon Kemble early in his first year on campus as he has made five appearances in the team’s first 24 games.

Kemble has gone 4.1 innings and has given up 10 runs in the early going.

“Peter is a talented pitcher coming off a very successful prep career, where he developed a reputation as a dependable strike-thrower who is really tough to get a hit off,” Morrell said. “Peter has tremendous potential and we believe he will be an important part of our pitching staff this summer.”

Catching Kemble this season both for the Black Bears and the Bells is Cody Pasic.

Pasic is in his sophomore season at Maine but he is in his first season as the primary catcher.

Last season, Pasic started 29 games with most of them coming at third base.

Through 24 games this season, Pasic has started every game, all behind the dish.

He is hitting .207 with a homer and six RBI and has drawn 15 walks.

Pasic is a 2016 graduate of Cheshire Academy.

“Cody is a versatile and athletic player who we are very excited to add to the roster. While he will primarily fill a catcher role for the Bells, he also has experience and ability to play the corner infield spots. With two seasons behind his belt with the Black Bears, we also know that Cody will bring experience and leadership to our team,” Morrell said.

Pasic and Kemble will join the Bells in time for their season opener on June 1 in Kelowna.
