Bells Add Trifecta of PAC-12 Talent

02/17/2020 9:47 AM

This week, the Bells would like to introduce three players from the PAC-12 Conference who will be joining the Bells for the summer of 2020. Left-handed pitcher Quinn Mathews from Stanford University, and a duo from the University of Washington, first baseman Cole Fontenelle and right-handed pitcher Logan Gerling.

Quinn Mathews graduated from Aliso Niguel High School in Aliso Viejo, Calif., and helped lead his team to a 2018 CIF State Championship title.

"We are especially excited to have Quinn represent the Stanford Cardinal on the Bells roster this summer,” said Bells head coach Adam Geaslen. “Quinn is an extremely talented left-handed pitcher that demonstrates the ability to command all of his pitches in any situation. He possesses a fastball with late life and tremendous arm-side run."

Mathews was ranked the No. 6 LHP in California and No. 47 nationally his senior year with a batting average of .360. A multi-sport athlete, Mathews played varsity soccer his sophomore and junior year and was on varsity baseball all four years.
Fontenelle won’t be traveling far this summer after graduation from Skyline High School in Sammamish, Wash. The 6-foot-3-inch midfielder played both baseball and basketball in high school and has committed to the University of Washington.

“Cole is a phenomenal athlete and an accomplished hitter from both sides of the plate,” said Geaslen. "He consistently displays the ability to hit for power and drive in runs, so I see Cole having an immediate impact in our lineup. Cole's versatility to play multiple positions around the infield and his exceptional character will make him an outstanding addition to the 2020 Bells roster.”

According to Baseball Factory, Fontenelle is versatile in being able to play multiple positions as he has experience at shortstop, second base and as a pitcher. Last season, he finished with a batting average of .320 and a fielding percentage of .918 out of 98 total chances.

Gerling will also debut for the Huskies this season after two seasons of pitching for the Tacoma Community College Titans. Gerling produced a dominant sophomore season on the mound cumulating an 11-0 record and a 1.49 ERA.

"Gerling is a talented right-handed pitcher that brings a tremendous amount of competitiveness and intensity to the mound. Plain and simple, Logan is a winner,” said Geaslen. “This past spring at Tacoma CC he was nothing short of dominant and I'm sure his success will carry over this Spring for the Dawgs. We are extremely excited to have Logan's high character and competitive fire in our clubhouse this summer. I truly believe he will be a fan favorite."

A 2017 graduate from Gig Harbor High School, Gerling helped his team win the state championship his senior year. The 6-foot 185lb. junior will be exciting to watch this spring with the Huskies and this summer in Bellingham

The Bells home opener is Tuesday, June 2 at Joe Martin Field.
