Knights Take Down Bells

The Bellingham Bells fell to the Corvallis Knights 10-5 Monday at Goss Stadium.

The Knights scored seven runs in the first four frames to overwhelm the Bells.

After Corvallis crossed seven runs in the first three innings, Bellingham responded in the top half of the fifth. Mitchell Robinson began the comeback with a double, scoring on a Danny Casals single. Casals moved to third on consecutive groundouts from Austin Shenton and Jake Vieth. Shane Hanon drove in Casals with an RBI single. The Bells cut their deficit to 7-2 after four and a half innings.

The Bells loaded the bases the in the seventh inning. Hanon led off with a single and moved to second when Andru Cardenas reached on error. Gunnar Schubert followed with a walk to load the bases. Elijah Skipps brought home Hanon with a sacrifice fly. The Knights led 9-3 at stretch time in Corvallis.

Bellingham capped the scoring in the ninth. Trailing 10-3, Gunnar Schubert started the rally reaching on a hit by pitch. Elijah Skipps followed with a double off the right field wall to put runners on second and third. David Banuelos drove in Shubert, flying out to left field. Robinson roped the second double of the inning to plate Skipps. But a Casals groundout ended the ballgame, with Corvallis coming away with a 10-5 win.

David Stealy (1-3) earned his first start of the season, and the Bellingham resident tossed five innings, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits to fall to 1-3 on the summer. Jeff Gelinas fired two scoreless innings while fanning two Knights batters. Josh Zavisubin worked the final two innings and the Sehome High School graduate allowed only one run while striking out one.

Aaron Pope (2-2) dealt five innings for the Knights, allowing two run on four hits while fanning four to earn the win.

The Bells take the field Tuesday night against the Corvallis Knights, first pitch scheduled for 6:40, with pre-game coverage starting at 6:15 with Tom Prizeman on https://network1sports.com/station/bellinghambells.
