The Bells out pitched the Cowlitz Black Bears Sunday night, winning 1-0. (Then enjoyed post game fireworks)
Connor Johnson started on the hill for the Bells and baffled Cowlitz hitters all night en route to earning the win. Johnson went 6 innings and gave up 0 runs and he only allowed 5 hits and two walks on the evening. He was then replaced by Josh Zavisubin, who pitched a perfect 7th inning while striking out a batter, Zavisubin also earned the hold. Jared Horn then entered in the 8th and closed things out with some dazzling heat. He earned the save and struck out two in his two innings.
The Bells had at least one baserunner in each of the first four innings, but were unable to push any runs across, as the starter for Cowlitz Alex Hardy was able to work around trouble early in the game. The only run in the game came in the fifth, after Hardy was lifted for Jacob Worrell he dispatched the first batter of the fifth, but the next hitter, Chase Strumpf stepped up and drove a ball over the right center field for a solo home run, giving the Bells the only run they would need.
The Bells also played great defense behind their pitchers today, with Strumpf making some nice playes up the middle. Also the Bells nearly turned a triple play around the horn, but were unable to finish it as the batter beat the throw to first.
