Bells Announce Two Incoming Gonzaga Players

The Bellingham Bells are excited to announce two new players from Gonzaga University. RHP Everett Swaim and RHP Liam O’Brien will be joining the Bells for the first time this summer.

Swaim, who was a two-way star coming out of Canada, will shift his focus to pitching in his first year with the Zags. Swaim left high school with the best batting average and second-best ERA in his province. In 2022, Swaim played with the Delta Blue Jays of the British Columbia Premier Baseball League, where he made seven starts posting a minimal 1.28 ERA.

“Everett has exceptional stuff with his fastball sitting in the low 90’s, his off-speed pitches keep hitters off balance, and his command allows him to keep his pitches in the strike zone,” said Bells head coach Jim Clem. “Everett is a great guy and a talented young pitcher. We are excited to have him playing with the Bells this summer!”

O’Brien has signed his letter of intent to play at Gonzaga next year but will play at Paradise Valley Community College in Arizona this spring. Last year at Pima Community College in Arizona, O’Brien appeared in 16 games out of the bullpen, striking out 41 batters in in 23.1 innings. O’Brien most recently pitched on February 4th for Paradise Valley C.C. where he struck out nine over five innings, only allowing one hit.

“Liam has really developed over the past two years. He is super athletic and is a legitimate prospect,” Clem said. “He is 6’5″ now, has a quick arm, his fastball sits 93-95, he compliments that with a power curveball, and a changeup. Liam’s a great guy and will fit well in our clubhouse, we’re really looking forward to having him pitch with the Bells this summer!”

Both talented arms should be fun to watch on the mound this summer.

The Bells Opening Day is June 2, 2023 against the Edmonton Riverhawks at Joe Martin Field.
