Bells Pitching Limits Raptors offense to One Run
Ridgefield, Wash. — The Bells used four arms that combined for 16 strikeouts in their 7-1 victory against the Ridgefield Raptors on Tuesday.
Bells catcher Charlie Saum ignited the offense early with a three-run home run over the right field wall, into the Bells bullpen, that gave Bellingham a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.
RHP Eric Chavarria got things started on the mound and went three innings, gave up three hits and struck out four.
LHP Ryan Sanders went the next two innings and posted five strikeouts. Sanders allowed the only Raptors run in the bottom of the fourth inning when outfielder Tafton Hensley hit a single home run into right center field.
RHP Ryan Beitel was credited with the win after tackling innings six through eight and registered five strikeouts.
Infielder Luis Aviles roped his second home run of the season, in the top of the eighth inning, that brought home outfielder Daniel Gernon and infielder Yugo Hamakawa and extended the Bells lead 7-1.
Gernon and Hamakawa were brought home on both Bells home runs, Gernon got on base in four of five plate appearances.
Outfielder Malakhi Knight made his Bells debut and batted eighth, infielder Cole Hinkelman made his first plate appearance of the 2021 season pinch hitting for outfielder Greyson Sterling in the top of the ninth.
