Yoshida goes Yard
It was a lovely night in the ballpark, with the sun shining and not a cloud in sight of the stadium for the Bellingham Bells. The temperature was quite warm for June in Bellingham, but that didn’t stop the Bells from having a memorable night. It was #2 Cole Yoshida who produced the Bells first home run of the season contributing to the win over the Cowlitz Black Bears 3-2.
The energy in the bottom of the third inning was lit up by Yoshida’s solo homer. Dust and turf was getting kicked up as the Bells stole 3 bases on the Black Bears catcher, #43 Carlos Beltran. The speed on the base path helped contribute to tonight’s win. As for our catcher, #33 Coleman Schmidt, he didn’t let up any stolen bases.
Not only did the Bells have strong plate appearances but they also had a tight defense. #12 Nathan Van Beek opened the night for the Bells only allowing the Black Bears two runs on the evening. Following Van Beek, the other pitchers, #8 Carter Parcher, #25 Caleb Cassie, and #35 Will Armbruster limited the Black Bears to the two runs. Another key aspect of this game was the contributions of #11 Nate Kirkpatrick early in the game. Kirkpatrick went 1-for-3 at the plate and also assisted in four of the six outs in the first two innings for the Bells.
