Cowlitz elite pitching and clicking offense too much for Bellingham in 4-1 loss
The offense got going early for the Black Bears. Daniel Paret was able to limit the damage to 1 earned run despite giving up 3 hits and 2 BBs to start his day. Good left-handed pitching has been a common theme in Bells losses lately. The Black Bears gave today’s start to Spencer Seid, a lefty from the University of California San Diego, who boasts a 0.00 ERA across 16 innings of work. Seid had an efficient outing, recording a 1.00 WHIP and 3 Ks that all came at crucial moments.
Paret ran into more trouble in the 3rd inning with the bases loaded and nobody out, but he was able to get out of the situation once again, only giving up 1 earned run in the inning. He would go on to retire the first three batters in the 4th inning, finishing his day with 8 Ks before turning the ball over to Gianluca Shinn.
Shinn had his work cut out for him in his 2.2 innings of work. He struggled to limit baserunners despite allowing only 2 earned runs.
In the 7th inning, it looked like the Bells offense had a chance to potentially get back into the game with the bases loaded and no outs. A wild pitch led to a free run for the Bells, but that was all they could afford tonight. Three quick outs led to the end of a once-promising inning.
The Bells would not have another runner reach base for the rest of the game. Losing 4-1 to the Cowlitz Black Bears (19-17). Bringing our record for the season to 23-14.
The Bells will look to right the ship at 6:35 p.m. on July 18. Follow along with the action here.
