Bells Fall to AppleSox in Game One
The Bells came up short Tuesday night, dropping game one of the away series to the Wenatchee AppleSox 5-1. The AppleSox, who are currently atop the WCL North Division (both overall and second half) will square off with the Bells during six of the season’s last 12 games.
Wenatchee came out with hot bats, racking up 12 hits over the night, including three doubles. On top of Wenatchee’s strong offense, they also played well together with no errors. Felix Schlede started on the mound for the AppleSox and pitched for 3.2 innings giving up five hits to the Bells. Following Schlede, Evan Canfield came to pitch in the top of the fourth innings, not allowing the Bells any hits and striking out three batters in 15 batters faced.
Wenatchee had a strong pitching appearance in tonight’s match up, but weren’t perfect in shutting out the Bellingham Bells. Bellingham was able to get five hits and walked only twice. A couple highlights on the offensive side were Andrew Valdez’s double to right field and Ty Saunders, who went 2-for-4 at the plate with two singles. Nate Kirkpatrick and Coleman Schmidt also had a hit tonight to help the Bells offensively.
Five arms combined for the Bells in Tuesday’s outing. Daniel Paret got the start for the Bells, tossing three innings and giving up six hits, two runs, and two walks. Carter Parcher came in following Paret and threw three stellar innings, with only one hit and five strikeouts in 10 batters he faced. Parcher was followed by Matt Molina, Nathan Van Beek and James Trimble. On the night, the Bells pitchers gave up 5 runs and 12 hits.
Tomorrow, the Bells look to bounce back against the AppleSox in game two, with first pitch at 6:35 P.M.
