The Bells take game one from the AppleSox, in 12-1 rout
The Bells were dominant once again on the mound and were headlined by their starter, Daniel Paret. Paret had another phenomenal start, only allowing two hits and shutting out the Wenatchee AppleSox through four innings.
Following Paret, two new arms for the Bells would get their first opportunities of the season. Cal Young and Jack Beebe each recorded shutouts in the fifth and sixth innings. And neither of them allowed a hit.
Will Franklin took over for the seventh and eighth innings and worked through each of them without much of an issue. Allowing two hits and a walk, but picking off a pinch-runner to prevent the eighth inning from getting out of hand.
On the offensive side, the Bells had their best day of the season. With offensive production in all but two innings.
It began in the first inning when an Andrew Valdez double down the third base line put the Bells in position to score early. He extended his hit streak to six games and boosted his average to .321 on the season. Daryl Ruiz followed that up with his team-leading 20th walk of the season to load the bases. Riley Parker then placed a sacrifice that avoided an inning-ending double play and plated the first run for the Bells. Putting them up 1-0 to end the first inning.
In the second inning, the Bells found themselves in another bases-loaded situation, and Dean West took advantage, scoring Cole Yoshida easily to put the Bells up 2-0.
Andrew Valdez kept the offense going in the fourth inning with his RBI single that scored Coleman Schmidt and also placed Dean West at 3rd base. West would later score on a Riley Parker sacrifice before the inning ended with the Bells ahead 4-0.
In the fifth inning, Cole Yoshida jumped on the first pitch he saw to score Colton Bower on an RBI double. Coleman Schmidt later sacrificed Yoshida for another run to make the score 6-0 Bells by the time the inning was over.
The sixth inning would get started with Andrew Valdez and Daryl Ruiz each recording singles to place themselves on 1st and 2nd base, Riley Parker followed them up with a fly ball to the right fielder that appeared to be misplayed but was ultimately ruled as caught and dropped on a transfer. Causing Ruiz to be called out for not tagging up and giving the AppleSox two outs with Valdez ending up on 3rd base. Following all of that chaos, Colton Bower came through on a 1-0 pitch to put the Bells up 7-0.
In the eighth inning, the offense didn’t look back, adding five runs, one on a Colton Bower RBI single that scored Andrew Valdez and another on a Brady Reynolds sacrifice that scored Ty Saunders, but the inning was highlighted by Ty Saunders launching a ball into the gap that cleared the bases, scoring Daryl Ruiz, Riley Parker, and Colton Bower. The combined effort led to the Bells being up 12-0 heading into the final inning.
James Trimble came in to close the game for the Bells. He allowed one run to score to make the final score 12-1. The 11-run difference, along with the 12 runs scored, was a season-high for Bellingham.
The Bells (32-16) have an opportunity to take the series from the league-leading Wenatchee AppleSox (35-14) on August 2 at 6:35 p.m.
