Bells offense erupts for 16 runs against the Lefties
Starting pitcher Ryan Beitel worked one clean inning before handing the ball over to Thomas Urbina. Beitel brought his ERA down to 1.60, which capped a tremendous season for the righty from the University of British Columbia.
Cole Yoshida got the scoring started in the second inning with his second solo shot of the season to give the Bells their first of many runs against Port Angeles. Coleman Schmidt brought in Max Hartman on an RBI single, and Nate Kirkpatrick scored after an error by the Lefties.
In the following inning, Yoshida kicked off the scoring again with a double that scored Colton Bower. Nate Kirkpatrick came through later with a single that scored Yoshida and Max Hartman.
Later in the same inning, Andrew Valdez produced a single that scored Kirkpatrick. Putting the Bells ahead 7-0 early.
The fourth-inning scoring began with a bases-loaded walk to Brady Reynolds. Moments later, Coleman Schmidt put the ball in play to score Cole Yoshida and put the Bells ahead 9-0.
The Bells kept their offense chugging along in the fifth inning, scoring a run after an RBI single by Max Hartman that brought in Daryl Ruiz. Giving the Bells a commanding 10-0 lead halfway through the game.
Thomas Urbina dominated in his first three innings of work but gave up a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning. Giving the Lefties a run back to make the score 10-1. Urbina has had an excellent year, posting a 1.80 ERA across 25 innings of work.
Kadden Drew took over in the sixth inning and handled his business quickly, retiring the first three batters he saw.
Kaden Clute got the offense going in the seventh inning after leading things off with a double in his first at-bat of the season. He later scored on a wild pitch. Cole Yoshida and Nate Kirkpatrick scored after a costly error by the shortstop, but that wasn’t all. Later in the same inning, Andrew Valdez proved once again why he is one of the best hitters in the West Coast League, scoring Coleman Schmidt and Brady Reynolds on his second RBI single of the game. After a long seventh inning, the score was 15-1.
The Bells turned to another reliever who has produced dominant numbers this season, Will Franklin. Franklin delivered a clean inning of relief to bring his ERA down to 0.40, which leads the Bells amongst relievers with more than 10 IP.
In the final inning, the Bells tacked on one more insurance run for good measure after Ty Saunders scored on an error by the Lefties first baseman. James Trimble came on to record a clean inning in the home half of the ninth to secure a 16-1 victory over Port Angeles.
The Bells (34-17) will meet the Lefties (12-40) for game 2 on August 5 at 6:35 p.m.
It’s Game Time!
