Bellingham Bells Lose 7-6 to Victoria Harbourcats in North Division Championship
In the North Division Championship game, the Bellingham Bells clashed with the Victoria Harbourcats in a hard-fought battle that left no room for predictability. Isaac Yeager, the right-handed Freshman out of the University of Washington, got the start.
Coleman Schmidt’s leadoff single got the Bells off to a strong start. Dean West followed up with a hit-and-run that narrowly evaded the Harbourcats’ right fielder. This positioned Andrew Valdez to put the second pitch he saw in the game over the left field wall, resulting in his fifth home run of the season and a 3-0 lead for the Bells.
Isaac Yeager effectively managed the first inning for the Bells, maintaining the momentum for Bellingham.
The Bells extended their lead in the second inning. Brady Reynolds secured his 23rd walk of the season to put runners on 1st and 2nd base. Dean West’s speedy baserunning prevented a double play, and Andrew Valdez’s single brought in his fourth RBI of the game. A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch stretched the Bells’ lead to 5-0.
In response, the Harbourcats rallied in the bottom of the second inning. Back-to-back walks created an opportunity, and an error led to their first run. A sacrifice fly brought in another run, closing the gap to 5-2.
The Harbourcats continued their momentum in the 4th inning, securing their first hit off Isaac Yeager and adding an RBI single, making the score 5-3.
Hunter Long came on in relief and eventually finished the inning, but not before Victoria’s offense plated four runs to put them ahead 7-5.
In the ninth inning, the Bells staged a late comeback effort. Dean West and Andrew Valdez drew back-to-back walks, putting the tying runs on base. Despite multiple pitching changes by the Harbourcats, the Bells managed only one run on a wild pitch, resulting in a 7-6 loss to the Victoria Harbourcats.
