Four New Bells Signed from Fresno Pacific and Whitworth
BELLINGHAM, WA — Monday, March 3, the Bellingham Bells announced the addition of four new Bellingham Bells. Two from Fresno Pacific University, Derek McNary and Chris Clement and two from Whitworth College, Dylan Huntsman and Jared Hardie.
First from Fresno Pacific is Derek McNary, a 6-foot-3 right-handed pitcher from Hanford, California. The junior has spent his whole collegiate career with the Sunbirds of Fresno Pacific.
McNary did not pitch in 2024 but as a freshman he threw 42.2 innings for the Sunbirds and pitched a 5.27 ERA with 30 strikeouts.
This summer will mark McNary’s second trip to the West Coast League after he spent the 2023 summer with the Yakima Valley Pippins. There he threw 13.1 innings in four appearances with three being starts.
The former Perfect Game Preseason All-California Region Honorable Mention for Hanford High School joins a stacked Bellingham Bells 2025 bullpen coached by Jim Clem.
The second Fresno Pacific Sunbird is Chris Clement, a 6-foot junior infielder. Chris Clement is currently in his third straight season with the Sunbirds. Last season he batted .353 and was aptly awarded an All-PacWest Third Team selection, his second All-PacWest selection in a row.
Clement formerly played in the West Coast League for the Yakima Valley Pippins in 2023, teaming with McNary for that summer season. That summer he had 21 hits to drive in 16 runs.
This spring, Clement is off to a hot start for Fresno Pacific, batting .304 and has already clubbed two home runs with 11 runs batted in. Hopefully Clement will stay hot and be coming off a potential career year when he comes to Bellingham this summer.
The first player from Whitworth College is Dylan Huntsman, a 5-foot-11 right-handed pitcher from Denver, Colorado. The sophomore threw 19.2 innings last season with a 4.32 ERA for the Pirates coming out of the bullpen.
This season, Huntsman has transitioned to a starter for Whitworth and in three starts he has already shown his talents. In his third start of the season, Huntsman found his groove going 7.1 innings and giving up just one run against the University of Puget Sound to earn his second win of the season.
The former All-Denver Prep League and All-State pitcher for Thomas Jefferson High School will bring his right-handed pitching to the Bells pitching staff this summer.
The final player of this week’s roster release is Jared Hardie from Whitworth College. Hardie is a 5-foot-11 freshman right-handed pitcher for the Pirates.
As a senior for Lake Stevens, Hardie was an All-Wesco League Second Team selection as a pitcher.
This season for Whitworth, Hardie has come out of the Pirates bullpen. In his debut he pitched 2.1 innings and earned his first college career win over Bethesda University.
Hardie is set to make his West Coast League debut this summer for the Bellingham Bells.
The Bells season begins May 30 in Nanaimo against the NightOwls and the Bells will play their first game at Joe Martin Field on June 3 against the Kamloops NorthPaws. Tickets go on sale April 1.
It’s Game Time!
