Offense stays hot in win over Edmonton
One of Edmonton’s two big losses today was a 7-1 Riverhawks loss to the Bellingham Bells. The Bells (12-4) now hold sole possession of first place in the North Division.
The offense tallied 15 hits in the contest with the offense beginning quickly on Rob Jacobsen’s first career hit as a Bell with an RBI single in his first Bellingham at-bat during the first inning. Nate Kirkpatrick hit a sacrifice fly to give Bells starter Cal Young a 2-0 lead before he took the mound.
Kirkpatrick knocked in another run during the third inning and Young faced the minimum Riverhawks in the second, third and fourth innings.
Noah Cassie picked up a right-field single in the fifth inning where the fielder committed an error on his throw to allow Andrew Lamb to score. Gavin Long eventually sent Cassie home on an RBI groundout.
Young picked up one out in the fifth before being relieved and exited his scoreless start with only two hits allowed with no walks and two strikeouts.
Will Anderson entered and had his revenge against Edmonton with two quick outs after allowing three runs the last time he faced the Riverhawks.
In the top of the sixth inning, Cassie had an RBI single to give Bellingham a 6-0 lead. Julian Herrera entered in the bottom of the inning and would pitch the next two innings hitless and scoreless.
Tyler Biddinger entered in the bottom of the eighth and allowed one run. The Bells scored their final run in the ninth on Kirkpatrick’s RBI double that capped off a 3-for-4, three RBI performance tonight.
The Bells won 7-1 after Biddinger pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish his two innings with one walk and hit allowed for a run while striking out two.
Along with Kirkpatrick’s big day at the plate, Jacobsen shined in his debut with a 3-for-4 night that included a double, two runs and an RBI. Cassie finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and one run. Alex Fernandes had three hits and scored a run.
The Bells will try to extend their three-game winning streak tomorrow against the Riverhawks as the Bells hot start to the season continues. Tomorrow’s 6:05 p.m. game will see Devyn Hernandez starting for Bellingham against Reece Hemmerling for Edmonton.
