Box Score | Bellingham Bells Roster | WCL Standings
The Bellingham Bells lost 6-0 to the Marion Berries Saturday, June 21 at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. The Berries evened the three-game series and the teams will play a 1:35 p.m. rubber match tomorrow to determine the series winner.
Colt Peterson shined in the start for Bellingham. The Stanford commit went 3.2 scoreless innings and struck out five while only allowing three hits to Marion. Ivan Rodriguez relieved him to finish the fourth scoreless.
Rodriguez returned to the mound in the fifth and allowed the first run of the game on Cade Goldstein’s RBI base hit to right field. In the Sixth the Berries plated two more against Rodriguez when Ben Allen drilled a two-RBI double to left field.
Rodriguez was tagged with the loss after 2.1 innings where he allowed four hits and a walk for three runs (two earned). Johnny Montgomery entered the seventh and after a leadoff error allowed two unearned runs to score. Jared Hardie had to pitch the final out in the inning after Montgomery only grabbed two outs while allowing two hits.
Hardie pitched a scoreless eighth and Julian Hererra pitched the ninth where he gave up one run while striking out two. The Bells offense had just six hits and lacked the big hits needed to get on the scoreboard. Bellingham was shutout for the first time this season in the loss.
Half of the Bells hits were doubles with Gavin Long (2-for-4) having the most success at the plate as the ninth batter in the order. Brock Sell also had a double as part of a 1-for-3 night at the plate. Andrew Lamb was 1-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 11 games with his double.
The Bells left nine runners on base and will look to bounce back in tomorrow’s day game against the Berries. Bellingham is deploying Preston Watkins for the start while the Berries will send Isaac Evaniew to the mound for the first time in 2025.
Despite the loss, Bellingham (14-6) is still first in the North Division with a 1.5 game lead over Wenatchee in the standings. The Bells next series is against the AppleSox Tuesday–Thursday, June 24–26.
