The Bellingham Bells earned a series win over the Kamloops NorthPaws with an 11-6 win Saturday, July 12 at Norbrock Stadium in Kamloops, British Columbia. Nate Kirkpatrick led the Bells with a two home runs as part of a 5-for-5 night at the plate that included seven RBIs.
Hayden George got the start and surrendered an early run in the first. Luckily Kirkpatrick hit his first home run of the night, a solo home run, in the top of the second inning to tie the game. Kirkpatrick also doubled in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.
George didn’t finish the fourth after allowing three walks and surrendered one run in the inning. He finished his 3.2 innings with four hits and seven walks allowed and did not strike out a batter. Johnny Montgomery finished the fourth securing the final out via a strikeout, but the game was tied 2-2.
The Bells tallied five runs in the fifth, but Montgomery only gained two outs in the bottom of the frame and allowed three runs before being relieved by Miles Chandler.
Kirkpatrick smoked a grand slam in the sixth for his second home run of the game and gave the Bells an 11-5 lead. Chandler allowed one run in the bottom of the sixth and went on to finished 2.1 innings with only one hit allowed while striking out four batters.
Camden Gillespie and Will Franklin combined for the final two innings and shutout the NorthPaws while facing the minimum in the eighth and ninth innings.
Along with Kirkpatrick’s dominating night, the Bells offense was supported by a double and three runs scored from Noah Meffert. Rob Jacobsen and Logan Degroot also picked up base hits in the eight-hit night from the Bells offense.
The Bells (24-14) took the second game of the series and earned a win over the NorthPaws (19-16) and will look to sweep Kamloops before heading into the All-Star break. Carter Herrera is Bellingham’s scheduled starter for the 12:05 p.m. game Sunday, July 13.
