Bells rout Nighthawks in non-league win
Box Score | Bellingham Bells Roster | WCL Standings
The Bellingham Bells earned a 13-0 win over the NW Star Nighthawks in a non-league matchup Friday, July 25 at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. The Bells racked up 15 hits and allowed just one hit in the big win.
Trevor Moore made a dominant start, pitching the first four innings scoreless and striking out six batters while allowing only one walk. The offense behind him was just as good, as the Bells scored nine runs during his four innings of work.
In the second inning, Gavin Long brought in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly. Noah Figuered picked up an RBI on a single and Brock Sell drove in two on a blooping double.
Blake Balsz crushed a 340-foot home run in the third to begin that innings scoring. After Noah Cassie had doubled, Figuered gathered another RBI on a groundout. Chris Clement and Rominic Quiban tallied an RBI each in the frame to give Bellingham an 8-0 lead.
In the fourth one run scored on an RBI ground out by Balsz. The Bells added two more in the fifth on RBIs by Aiden Aguayo and Noah Meffert’s back-to-back singles. In the sixth they scored their final two runs of the game on a two-RBI double by Figuered.
Noah Figuered finished the game with four RBI going 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Balsz was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Meffert, Clement and Quiban all had multi-hit games in the offensive explosion for Bellingham.
After Moore had pitched the first four innings, Hayden George earned the win by pitching the fifth and sixth innings hitless. Camden Gillespie entered the seventh and surrendered the first hit of the game for the Nighthawks. Johnny Montgomery had to relieve Gillespie midway through an at-bat in the eighth after an apparent injury to Gillespie.
After Montgomery had picked up the final two outs of the eight, Nico Azpilcueta entered the game as a pitcher in the ninth. Azpilcueta was dealing a mid-80s fastball and a nasty slider that led to a 1-2-3 inning capped off by two strikeouts to finish the win.
Bellingham looks to keep their momentum rolling into Saturday’s 6:35 p.m. matchup versus the NW Star Nighthawks. The Bells are playing their next five games at home so come support your Bells and buy tickets at bellstickets.com.
