The Bellingham Bells dropped their final game against the Port Angeles Lefties 3-2 Thursday, July 25 at Civic Field in Port Angeles, Wash. The win gave Port Angeles a series win and evened the season series 3-3 through six matchups this summer between the two teams.

Mack Edwards made the start for Bellingham and the lefty gave up his first run to the Lefties in the third inning. Bellingham pulled ahead in the next inning with two runs on an RBI by Logan Degroot and an error on Port Angeles’ defense.

That 2-1 lead quickly diminished as the Lefties scored two on Edwards in the bottom of the fourth to lead 3-2. Edwards finished a 3.1-inning start with four hits and four walks allowed for three runs (two earned) while striking out three batters. Edwards had allowed three runs in just under sixteen innings this season before his start today.

Chihiro Sato had finished the fourth inning on the mound and pitched the next two innings scoreless thereafter. Sato was able to get back on track after giving up 10 runs in his last two appearances. Last night, in 2.2 innings he allowed three hits and two walks for no runs and struck out two batters, which matched his season high for strikeouts in a game.

Cal Young pitched the seventh inning scoreless and allowed one hit in his second relief appearance this season. Young had not came out of the bullpen since June 10 versus Victoria, but the seven-game starter only gave up one hit last night.

Caleb Cassie finished the pitching for Bellingham with a scoreless eighth inning and only gave up a walk. The offense was never able to make up the one-run deficit and on eighth hits and seven walks the Bells stranded 10 runners left on base.

Logan Degroot led the Bells going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Noah Meffert also picked up multiple hits going 2-for-4 the the plate. Noah Cassie was 1-for-4 with a double as his lone hit. Rob Jacobsen, Aiden Aguayo and Andrew Lamb all picked up singles with Lamb drawing two walks to continue holding the sixth best on-base percentage in the West Coast League.

Tonight the Bells begin a six-game home stand with three non-league games this weekend before a weekday series versus the Kelowna Falcons. Bellingham’s game tonight begins at 4:35 p.m. and features a post game concert that your ticket to the game gets you into.
