Bellingham loses Tuesday night

The Bellingham Bells lost their second game versus the Kelowna Falcons 5-2 Tuesday, July 29 at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. Both teams struck out 13 times at the plate as the Falcons outlasted the Bells to even the the three-game series setting up a rubber match tomorrow at 6:35 p.m., Wednesday July 30.

Preston Watkins began the game with three-perfect innings, and he didn’t allow a baserunner until there was two outs in he fourth inning. He walked two batters and gave up two singles in that inning for three runs.

Gavin Long doubled to bring in a run in the bottom of the fourth and was sent home after two wild pitches. Watkins didn’t finish the fifth inning and exited his 14-out start with a season-high eight strikeouts while allowing three hits and two walks to earn the loss tonight.

Dylan Huntsman finished the fifth scoreless, but allowed his first runs of the season in the sixth that put the Bells behind 5-2. Huntsman had two strikeouts with three hits and no walks allowed in 1.1 innings.

Tyler Biddinger pitched a scoreless seventh despite two walks. Brock Sell made it to third base in the seventh with no outs, but three straight strikeouts from the Bells 1-2-3 hitters ended the inning.

Caleb Cassie struck out two in the eighth and pitched a hitless inning scoreless. Two got on base in the eighth but Clement, as the tying run with two outs, struck out at the plate.

Mack Edwards kept the game a three-run difference in the top of the ninth despite loading the bases on three hits and a walk in the inning. The Bells went down in order to finish the game and fell to 29-18 on the season.

The offense had just seven hits and walked four times. Noah Meffert led the team with a 2-for-3 night that included a run scored and a walk. Long collected his RBI double in a 1-for-4 night at the plate. Sell, Andrew Lamb, Nate Kirkpatrick and Noah Figuered all had one hit tonight.

The Bells look to claim a rubber match victory tomorrow night against the Falcons before playing this weekend in Wenatchee beginning Friday, August 1. The Bells will have one last home series August 4–6 to finish the 2025 season before their three-game playoff series beginning August 8. The Bellingham Bells are moving on in the West Coast League Playoffs after a 5-2 win over the Edmonton Riverhawks in the North Division Championship Game Tuesday, Aug 12 at RE/MAX Field in Edmonton, Alberta. The Bells will now face the Portland Pickles in the WCL title game Thursday to try and win Bellingham's first championship since 2014.
