Bells begin 2026 roster announcements

BELLINGHAM, WA — Wednesday, January 14, the reigning West Coast League champions — the Bellingham Bells — began their 2026 roster announcements with three starters who are returning to Joe Martin Field this summer.

Preston Watkins was the winning pitcher during the West Coast League All-Star game last season and returns to the Bells bullpen after pitching 35 innings last summer with a 3.08 ERA. Watkins impressed as a starter for Bellingham in 2025, racking up 40 strikeouts and giving up no runs in half of his appearances.

This collegiate season, Watkins returns to Texas A&M Corpus Christi for his second season there after pitching in 11 games during the 2025 season with the Islanders.

Watkins began his collegiate career at Eastern Oklahoma State College before transferring to Wharton County Junior College for his sophomore season.

Noah Cassie also comes from Texas A&M Corpus Christi and returns to Bellingham for his third stint as a Bell. Cassie was one of the Bells best sluggers last summer batting .310 with nearly a third of his hits going for extra bases.

Cassie made waves at Mineral Area Junior College for two seasons before transferring as a junior. In his JUCO career he racked up 25 home runs in 93 games and hit .369 with 107 RBIs during his two seasons as a Cardinal.

After a brief stint with Bellingham in 2024, last season marked a breakout year for Cassie in the WCL and 2026 should bring more big swings from the hitter out of Vancouver, B.C.

Cal Young returns to the Bells for a fourth season in Bellingham. The University of Portland left-handed pitcher tossed 34.2 innings for the Bells last year with a 2.08 ERA. 2025 marked a second-straight season where Young shined as a Bell after having a 1.56 ERA in 2024.

Young has picked up some hardware over the last two seasons in the WCL with an All-Star selection in 2024 and an All-WCL Honorable Mention in 2025.

Collegiately Young pitched 4.2 innings for the Pilots last season and returns to Portland as a junior this year. He began his career at Everett Community College and is from Vancouver, B.C.
