U of San Diego sends three to Bellingham for 2026

BELLINGHAM, WA — Friday, February 27, the Bellingham Bells announced the additions of three new players for the 2026 season. Reece Bueno, Gavin Giese and Caleb Sebek head North on I-5 from the University of San Diego to Joe Martin Field this summer.

Reece Bueno is a right-handed pitcher in his junior season at the University of San Diego. After beginning his career at Cal Poly, Bueno pitched two seasons with the Mustangs totalling 21 innings and 20 strikeouts.

His sophomore season as a relief pitcher is his best thus far as he posted a 3.00 ERA and had a 2-0 record in eight appearances. He’s yet to pitch for the Toreros, but with a four-pitch mix — fastball, gyro slider, curveball and changeup — Bueno can pitch it well.

Bueno is from Redwood High School in Visalia, Calif. In his prep career Bueno was a talented two-way player hitting .350 and shining on the mound enough to earn two Area Code Game invites.

He has prior West Coast League experience with the Kelowna Falcons for two seasons (2023 and 2024). In 29.1 WCL innings, Bueno pitched his best in 2024 with a 2.42 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 22.1 innings. This summer he’ll return to the WCL North, but joins a new team in the Bellingham Bells.

Gavin Giese is not yet a Torero at the University of San Diego, but the Dana Hills High School senior right-handed pitcher is going to prep for his fall at USD by joining the Bells this summer.

Giese was a Perfect Game Preseason Underclassmen All-American Honorable Mention and has played for the Los Angeles Dodgers Southern California Scout Team — a team operated by Dodgers full-time scouts.

Last season, Giese pitched a 1.13 ERA and had 42 strikeouts as a junior. With elite numbers like that, his senior season with Dana Hills should be special. He’ll join the Bells post graduation in preparation of his collegiate career.

Our final Torero heading to Bellingham this summer is freshman right-handed pitcher Caleb Sebek. The Ventura High School alum is in his first season at the University of San Diego after 29 innings and posting a 1.44 ERA for Ventura.

Sebek’s fastball is already in the 90s as a six-foot-six pitcher with the frame to dominate at the next level. His slider and changeup mix in variety on his pitches and he helped Ventura High School win the Channel League Championship.

The young arm has already debuted with the Toreros this season, and we’re excited to see how he helps Bellingham defend its West Coast League championship from last season.

The Bells open the 2026 season on the road March 29 at Kelowna but host Wenatchee for the home opener on June 2 at 6:35 p.m.
