BELLINGHAM — The Bellingham Bells dropped their second-straight game to the Wenatchee AppleSox with a 5-4 loss in extra innings on Wednesday, June 3 at Joe Martin Field. The Bells committed four errors on defense that led to four unearned runs.

The 10-inning game began with a duel between Bellingham’s Talon McGrorty and Wenatchee’s Felix Schlede. The two starting pitchers combined for four scoreless innings and McGrorty didn’t allow a hit until the fourth inning. 

The Bells jumped on Wenatchee’s first reliever, Dylan Dyer, with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Alden Scott led off the inning with a single and scored on an RBI fielder’s choice from Tristan Schaefer. Schaefer then stole second and took third on a wild pitch. Tyler Peshke singled to score Schaefer and the Bells led 2-0 entering the sixth.

Aidan Colin relieved McGrorty in the sixth and surrendered one run. An error began the inning and Wenatchee scored that runner on a steal and pair of wild pitches. Cal Young pitched a scoreless seventh inning for Bellingham with two strikeouts.

Zach Elsos took over for the eighth and had a scoreless frame. He returned to the mound searching three more outs for a 2-1 win. After a leadoff walk, Wenatchee bunted the tying run to second and the runner stole third. Elsos got a strikeout and was an out away from securing a six-out save. 

Wenatchee’s Noah Figuered hit a high-chopping ground ball to third that got past Peshke on an error and the AppleSox scored the tying run on Bellingham’s third defensive error of the game. The AppleSox added on two more runs in the top of the ninth to lead 4-2 entering the bottom of the inning.

Bellingham rallied in the bottom of the ninth after Jorge Olivera-Gutierrez was hit by a pitch and scored by Dillon Moss, who doubled. The Bells tied the game on an RBI-single by Tyson McGrorty. 

In extras, Wenatchee scored its free baserunner that was placed on second after an error by pitcher Thrasher Steed. Bellingham went down on a strikeout and game-ending double play that earned the AppleSox a series win over the Bells. 

Peshke and Tyson McGrorty led Bellingham with two hits each. Dillon Moss got on base three times in his season debut with a hit and two walks. He had a double, scored a run and stole a base too.
