11-4 win over Nanaimo snaps losing streak

NANAIMO — The Bellingham Bells got back in the win column with an 11-4 victory over the Nanaimo NightOwls on Saturday, July 4. Bellingham, now 20-12 overall, aims for a series win in tomorrow’s game to cap off a nine-game road trip.

Bellingham fell behind early after the NightOwls tagged starter Parker Warner for a run in the first inning. A Jaden Jackson RBI single and an RBI groundout by Noah Cassie in the third inning gave the Bells a 2-1 lead.

Nanaimo immediately evened the contest with a run in the bottom of the third. Matt Churchill doubled in a run during the fifth inning. Nate Johnson had an RBI single and Byrce Johnson drove in a run on a hit to make it 5-2 Bells after a three-run inning.

Warner surrendered his third run of a five-inning start to enter the sixth with Bellingham ahead 5-3. Warner finished his outing with seven strikeouts and allowed just five hits and one walk. 

David Wiser held the Bells in front with a scoreless three frames of relief and had six strikeouts during that time. The Bells blew the game open with a six-run eighth inning where Rashad Hayes hit a three-run home run. Aspen Alexander had an RBI double and Bryce Johnson collected another RBI single to go along with an error early in the inning that helped make it 11-3.

Braden Blackwell pitched the ninth and allowed one run, but ultimately closed the door on the Bells first win since June 28. 

Hayes led the Bells going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Bryce Johnson had two RBI on two hits and scored once. Nate Johnson and Jackson both had multi-hit games and both collected an RBI. Overall the Bells had 12 hits with five extra-base hits.

Bellingham and Nanaimo play in their rubber game tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. The Bells return home on Tuesday to host three non-league games before taking on the Port Angeles Lefties next weekend. Get your tickets for the upcoming nine-game homestand at bellstickets.com.
