NightOwls take series from Bells on Sunday
NANAIMO — The Bellingham Bells dropped their final game of a nine-game road trip with a 6-2 loss to the Nanaimo NightOwls on Sunday, July 5 at Serauxmen Stadium. With the loss, the Bells lost every series on their road trip and are 20-13 on the season, which is good for third in the North Division.
Seddrick Henderson gave up nine hits over 4-1/3 innings and was tagged for four runs in his start. Henderson struck out five batters and only allowed one walk. Robby Zimmerman finished the fifth inning and went on to pitch a hitless and scoreless sixth and seventh. Zimmerman finished 2-2/3 innings with two strikeouts while walking four batters.
Nanaimo added to their 4-0 lead with two runs in the eighth inning against Will Crain, who only allowed one hit in the inning. After a sacrifice fly, an error scored the NightOwls second run in the inning to give Nanaimo a 6-0 lead.
The Bells had a pair of hits to start the ninth inning and Aspen Alexander cashed in Bellingham’s first run on a sacrifice fly. Dillon Moss had a single that scored another run, but the Bells fell 6-2 after a flyout finished the inning.
Nate Johnson and Bryce Johnson had two hits each and the Bells had just six hits and one walk on offense. Jake Lyall and Tyler Peshke had the other Bellingham hits.
Bellingham’s long road journey through Canada is finished. After going just 2-7 on the road trip, the Bells are hoping to find more success over the next nine games at home. Bellingham does have six non-league games in that span, but there is a league series Friday through Sunday against the Port Angeles Lefties.
The Bells are back home Tuesday for a 6:35 p.m. game against the Northwest Star Nighthawks. Get your tickets at bellstickets.com or watch the game on the Bellingham Bells YouTube channel.
