Another comeback win to top Everett Merchants

BELLINGHAM — The Bellingham Bells picked up another non-league win with a 3-2 win over the Everett Merchants on Wednesday, July 8. The Bells once again rallied from a deficit as they scored the final three runs of the game to earn the win.

Gavin Hasche began a bullpen-heavy game for Bellingham with two scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter. David Wiser tossed a scoreless third inning with one strikeout.

Adam Jay allowed three walks and one hit in the fourth inning and the Merchants scored two runs in the frame to take a 2-0 lead. The Bells got one run back in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI knock by Matt Churchill that scored Jaden Jackson, who singled and stole second prior to Churchill’s hit.

Kenneth Johnson took the ball on the hill for the next two innings and held Everett from scoring another run. Johnson allowed a hit and walk in the fifth, but had a perfect sixth and finished two innings with three strikeouts.

The Bells tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning following another single and steal from Jackson. Noah Cassie hit a ground ball to third base that led to an error, which tied the game at 2-2.

Rohan Kasanagottu made his debut in the seventh inning and collected two strikeouts on the way to a scoreless inning. There was a 7-4-2 putout in the seventh that gunned the go-ahead run out at the plate for the Merchants.

Cal Young pitched the eighth and had the help of a Jackson putout from left field to help keep the game tied. Young had two strikeouts in his scoreless inning.

Jackson had another leadoff single in the bottom of the eighth and moved up to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Aspen Alexander. Churchill came through with the go-ahead knock in the eighth to take a 3-2 lead.

Thrasher Steed entered for the ninth inning and closed out the win for Bellingham with a 1-2-3 inning. Jackson led the Bells with a 3-for-4 performance and scored three runs. Churchill was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Nate Johnson’s one hit was a double.

The Bells will play another non-league game tomorrow against Baum Bat Northwest with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Tickets are on sale at bellstickets.com.
