Bells best Baum Bat Northwest on Thursday
BELLINGHAM — The Bellingham Bells finished their third non-league game in a row with a 5-2 win over Baum Bat Northwest. Noah Cassie had a solo home run in the win and Matt Churchill came through with another two-RBI game.
Bellingham got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after the game’s first run scored on an error. Churchill then drove in the second run in the frame. Lathan Haywood, the Bells starter, allowed two runs in the second inning to tie the game.
Cassie’s solo home run to lead off the third inning gave Bellingham a 3-2 lead. Haywood finished three innings with five hits and a walk allowed for two runs. He struck out one batter and received a no-decision.
Seddrick Henderson took the ball for the fourth and fifth innings, which earned him the win. Henderson had three strikeouts and only allowed one hit. Frank Willius had a scoreless top of the sixth that featured one strikeout and one walk.
KG Hattori walked and stole second base in the bottom of the sixth. Rashad Hayes sent Hattori home on a single to make the lead 4-2. Will Crain had a perfect seventh inning on the mound to hold the lead. Zach Elsos only allowed one hit in the eighth and had one strikeout.
Churchill doubled in the bottom of the eighth to stretch the lead to 5-2. Nic Peterson made his return to the Bells after being a WCL All-Star in 2024 and locked down the save with the help of two strikeouts.
Churchill and Cassie both had two hits to lead the Bells. Cassie scored two runs and had a walk and single to go with his home run. Hayes, Dillon Moss, Rominic Quiban and Nate Johnson all had one hit each in the win.
The Bells return to league play in tomorrow’s 4:35 p.m. game against the Port Angeles Lefties. Spaceband will be performing a post-game concert, so all fans who purchase a ticket to the game can enjoy the music following the game. Get your tickets at bellstickets.com.
