Pitchers dominate Cascade Collegiate Showcase Team

Box Score

BELLINGHAM — The Cascade Collegiate League Showcase Team couldn’t touch Bellingham’s pitching tonight. The staff struck out 17 batters while only allowing one hit in the Bells 6-0 non-league win.

Seddrick Henderson started the game with three scoreless innings. His only baserunner allowed was a hit-by-pitch and the UCLA right-hander struck out six batters. Nate Johnson gave the Bells a 1-0 lead on a go-ahead single in the first inning.

Bellingham added on three more runs in the third inning. Tyler Peshke sent a run in on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice and Rominic Quiban had an RBI single that led to an error and another run for Bellingham. It was 4-0 as the Bells headed to their bullpen.

Nic Peterson came in for the next three innings of relief and didn’t allow a run. The CCL Showcase Team did record their first and only hit of the game in the sixth inning after Quiban couldn’t make a diving catch in left field. Peterson had five strikeouts and earned the win in relief.

Bo Shinkle drove in a run in the fourth inning during his first game back from injury. Matt Churchill had an inside the park home run after the CCL’s left fielder was injured on a flyball by Churchill, allowing him to round the bases.

Bellingham cruised with a 6-0 lead to the finish line. Kenneth Johnson pitched a perfect seventh inning with the help of one strikeout. Ben McKinnon allowed two walks in the eighth, but had two strikeouts to help him toss a scoreless frame. Jordan Chancellor capped the dominant pitching performance by striking out the side in the ninth inning.

No Bell had multiple hits as Bellingham tallied just five knocks in the win. The team drew seven walks and Churchill was the only Bell to score multiple times. Bellingham has another non-league game next up with a 6:35 p.m. matchup hosting the DubSea FishSticks.
