Lightning shortens 8-3 win over Gunderson

Box Score

BELLINGHAM — The Bellingham Bells finished off a nine-game homestand with a five-inning 8-3 win over Gunderson Baseball on Thursday, July 16 at Joe Martin Field. Lightning began following the fifth inning, which sent the game into a weather delay that eventually ended up cancelling the rest of the game.

The Bells took a 7-0 lead after a messy first inning. Gunderson’s starter hit three batters, allowed two walks and gave up four hits while facing 12 batters in the inning. Nate Johnson had a sacrifice fly to score the first run of the game. Tyler Peshke hit two more home. Dillon Moss drove in two on a single. Rominic Quiban drew a bases-loaded walk and Hayden Hollingsworth scored on a wild pitch.

Bellingham starter Cole Anderson gave up runs in the second and third innings. He finished three innings with three walks issued and two hit-by-pitches. Anderson struck out five and only allowed one hit. Zach Elsos earned the win by pitching the final two innings with one run allowed. He didn’t allow a hit, but walked three batters and had four strikeouts.

Peshke led the Bells with three RBI and was 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored. The Bells had five hits with Moss tallying his two RBI and scoring a run. Rashad Hayes went 1-for-3 with a run scored. 2024 and 2025 West Coast League All-Star Nate Kirkpatrick made a brief return to the Bells and was 1-for-3 at the plate.

The Bells return to league play with a weekend series in Kamloops taking on the NorthPaws. After three games on the road, Bellingham will be back for a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday series hosting the Kelowna Falcons. First pitch for each game is set for 6:35 p.m. Get your tickets at bellstickets.com.
