Fast start leads to 11-4 win over Falcons
BELLINGHAM — It was a complete team win for the Bellingham Bells in an 11-4 victory over the Kelowna Falcons on Monday, July 21 at Joe Martin Field. The Bells had 13 hits on offense, struck out 15 batters and didn’t strike out at all at the plate.
Bellingham sprinted out to a 10-0 lead early against Kelowna. Tyler Peshke scored on a wild pitch in the second inning and that helped open the flood gates for a six-run third inning by the Bells. KG Hattori started the third with an RBI groundout.
Matt Churchill hit an RBI double and Peshke swatted two runs home on his second hit to make it 5-0. Bryce Johnson sent a run in and a second run scored on an error during the same play to make it 7-0 after three. In the fourth, Peshke sent in two more runs and Dillon Moss doubled to make it 10-0.
Bellingham’s starter Seddrick Henderson was dominant across 4-1/3 innings as the right-handed pitcher struck out five Falcons while allowing just two hits and three walks. Charlie Decker inherited a runner in the fifth out of the bullpen and let two runs in during the inning.
Bo Shinkle got one run back for the Bells with an RBI knock that made the score 11-2. Decker had a scoreless sixth, but allowed two more runs in the seventh. The All-Star pitcher finished 2-2/3 innings with five hits and two walks allowed for three runs. Decker struck out four batters and claimed his fourth win of the season for a perfect 4-0 record.
Kole Laubach was electric in the eighth and ninth innings. He allowed two hits, but every out he claimed was a strikeout and he finished the 11-4 win with six strikeouts.
Peshke led the Bells going 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored. Peshke now is on a six-game hitting streak with 10 RBI during that span. Bryce Johnson recorded three hits and drove in a run. Nate Johnson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Hattori had a pair of hits with an RBI and run scored.
The Bells have a chance to take the series over Kelowna in tomorrow’s Tuesday game against the Falcons that begins at 6:35 p.m.
