Dominant shutout claims series over Falcons
BELLINGHAM — The Bellingham Bells took the series win over the Kelowna Falcons with a 10-0 shutout win on Wednesday, July 22 at Joe Martin Field. Bellingham exits the three-game series with sole possession of second place in the North Division at 26-16.
Cole Anderson took the ball for the start on the mound and worked two scoreless innings while allowing one hit, two walks and one hit-by-pitch. Following a top of the third pitched by Jordan Chancellor, the Bells scored three runs in the third on a two-RBI double from Rashad Hayes and an RBI groundout by Matt Churchill.
Chancellor finished two relief innings with two walks issued while striking out two. Bellingham went up 5-0 after four innings following another two-RBI hit by Hayes. Lane Simonsen tossed the fifth inning scoreless to earn his first win of the season.
Gavin Hasche started the sixth inning with another zero on the scoreboard for Kelowna. KG Hattori sent two runs home on a single in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-0. Hayes reached base on his third hit and Churchill crushed a three-run home run to make it 10-0.
Hasche finished two scoreless frames to extend his scoreless streak to 11 innings as he allowed one walk, one hit and struck out one batter. Thrasher Steed allowed three hits in the eighth, but had three strikeouts to throw a scoreless inning.
Kaden Nicholls finished the dominant win by striking out the side in the ninth inning. Bellingham took games one and three over Kelowna by a combined score of 21-4 in both wins.
Hayes led Bellingham going 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBI, two runs and one steal. Hattori had two hits, runs and RBI in a productive night as the No. 9 hitter. Tyler Peshke recorded two hits and scored twice. Churchill’s lone hit was the three-run homer and he had four total RBI.
Bellingham has a three-game series on deck against the Wenatchee AppleSox beginning Friday, July 24 in Wenatchee. The Bells are on the road for their next six games facing Wenatchee and Marion in two three-game series.
