Win streak reaches eight after 5-0 victory
BELLINGHAM — The Bellingham Bells secured a sweep of the Victoria HarbourCats with a 5-0 win on Sunday, August 2. David Wiser pitched the final five innings to cap the Bells eighth straight win as he only allowed one baserunner in his relief outing.
For the third straight game, the Bellingham Bells scored runs in the first inning with two outs. Matt Churchill doubled to the left field corner to drive in two runs.
Starter Kole Laubach pitched four innings and only allowed three hits and one walk to begin the shutout win on the mound. He had three strikeouts in the victory.
Churchill had a sacrifice fly in the third inning to collect his third RBI of the game and extended Bellingham’s lead to 3-0.
Davis Wiser entered the game on the mound in the fifth inning and four of his five relief innings were 1-2-3 frames as he only allowed one hit that came in the seventh inning. Wiser’s six punch outs helped him earn his second win of the summer.
Ty Rusko reached on a fielder’s choice where Victoria committed an error with the bases loaded to make it 4-0. Bryce Johnson grounded out as the next batter to make it 5-0.
Churchill led the Bells offensively with two hits and three RBI. Noah Cassie was 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Tyler Peshke recorded a pair of hits as the Bells totaled 11 knocks as a team.
After the sweep over Victoria, the Bells are 34-17 with the No. 2 seed in the West Coast League playoffs locked up. Bellingham will host Edmonton for the final three games of the regular season with all three games on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday beginning at 6:35 p.m. Tickets for the final regular season games plus the postseason are on sale at bellstickets.com.
