Bells Extend Winning Streak to 8 in Dominating Win
The Bells defeated the Cascade Collegiate League showcase team by a final score of 14-1 on Wednesday night. Bellingham had 21 baserunners and struck out Cascade 14 times.
The victory was fueled by lights-out pitching from start to finish. Justin Tucker (3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K) only allowed two baserunners over the first three innings, and Cascade had just five hits. Trevor Barth (3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K) earned the win after striking out over half of the batters he faced (13). Ryan Sanders (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K), Trevin Hope (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K), and David Gibons (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K) pitched the final three innings. From a period between the 4th and 8th innings, Bellingham struck out 12 of 20 batters faced.
The offense was firing on all cylinders tonight, with 12 different Bells reaching base. Luis Aviles kicked off the scoring in the 2nd, blasting a 2-run HR that scored Cole Hinkelman. The 373-ft long bomb was his third in his last four games. He leads the team with 6 HR this summer, with 4 in league play.
The Bells scored in every inning but two, but only Yugo Hamakawa recorded multiple hits. RBIs in this game came from Emilio Corona, Garner Christianson, Luis Aviles, Yugo Hamakawa, Nick McLain (2), Charlie Saum, AJ Davis (2), and Ty Saunders. Aviles, Hamakawa, McLain and Charlie Saum each drew multiple walks as well. In total, the Bells scored 14 runs on 10 hits, 9 walks, 2 HBP and 3 errors. They were also aggressive on the basepath, stealing four bases.
The win was Bellingham’s 8th straight and their third straight sweep. Only four of the games were league games, and the Bells will look to keep the hot streak going as the WCL South-leading Corvallis Knights come to town on Friday, July 30th for a 3-game series.
