Three New Players from Paradise Valley
The Bellingham Bells are excited to introduce three incoming players from Paradise Valley Community College in Arizona. Catcher Cole Williams, RHP Tomas Urbina, and LHP Kadden Drew will be joining the Bells this summer.
Williams is a Mount Vernon native who attended Mount Vernon High School and will be entering his second season with the Pumas. Williams appeared in 43 games last season as a freshman and is off to a hot start this year with 15 RBIs in 17 games.
“Cole Williams is an outstanding catcher. He can really catch and throw, and he is offensive as well,” Bells head coach Jim Clem said. “He has two years of being the #1 catcher for his college team, so his experience behind the plate will be of great benefit to the Bells.”
Urbina appeared in 22 games last year out of the bullpen for Paradise Valley where he recorded two wins and seven saves. Urbina is showing an improved strikeout rate this season with 16 strikeouts in just nine relief appearances.
“Tomas Urbina is having a great year,” Clem said. “He’s currently the closer for his team but could be used in any role. He’s known to be a consistent strike-thrower with all 3 of his pitches. His stuff is very good, he’s confident, and knows how to pitch.”
Drew posted an impressive 7-1 record last season with the Pumas in 12 starts. He showed a great ability to strikeout batters last year with a 10.61 K/9. Drew has continued his success early on this year with 13 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched.
“Kadden Drew has outstanding stuff! He has been used as a starter but could fill any role,” Clem said. “We know he can be overpowering at times, but his off-speed pitches are quality as well. We expect Kadden will be a big contributor to our staff this summer.”
We are excited to have these three exceptional players bring their talents to the Bells this June.
The Bells Opening Day is June 2, 2023 against the Edmonton Riverhawks at Joe Martin Field.
