The Bellingham Bells take game one from the Kelowna Falcons
The Bellingham Bell’s second two dollar Tuesday of the season was a big success despite the clouds and rain that covered the field for about an inning. Hard work at the plate and hard work on the field benefited the Bellingham Bells in the first game of the series against the Kelowna Falcons. The Bells had strong pitching and great plate approaches.
#21 Jack Erdman from Bellevue Community College earns the win for the Bells tonight, having 10 strikeouts and no runs. Erdman stepped on the mound with great confidence and it showed, he threw for five innings, producing 70 pitches and 46 strikes. Erdman has some nasty movement on the pitches he throws, in a post game interview Erdman states that a lot of the batters were left handed and he is a right handed pitcher so he could throw an outside change up and it seemed to throw off those batters. Relieving Erdman tonight was #3 Tomas Urbina from Avondale, AZ, #40 Gibson Marshall-Inman from Woodway, WA, and #8 Carter Parcher from Lynden, WA. The four of them split the last four innings of the game only giving up one run. Parcher finished the game strong in the ninth, throwing only 13 pitches and 11 of those pitches were strikes. That is an 84% strike rate for the Lynden native.
The Bells did not disappoint tonight on the offensive side, producing six hits over nine innings. They also had another six walks and four hit by pitch on the night, which put 10 runners on base for the Bells. #2 Cole Yoshida and #7 Ty Saunders both had big hits for the Bells, Yoshida with a double and Saunders with a triple up the first baseline to the right fielder. The bottom of the fourth inning was key to the Bells win of this game. In the fourth inning alone, Bellingham scored six runs on two hits. With a walk back to back with a hit by pitch that puts two on base for Wyatt Hall who hits a single and advanced each player up one base giving the Bells bases loaded. #11 Nate Kirkpatrick up to the plate in hopes to score a few runs, but gets hit-by-pitch and the runner on third walks in for the first run of the evening. Saunders has a big single that scores RBI’s during the fourth as well. The Bells don’t let up there as they continue putting in the work and win the game 9-1.
