Bells win the last game of the series against Riverhawks
After a series split going into the final game, the Bellingham Bells out scored the Edmonton Riverhawks, 9-6.
On the offensive end for the Bells, Andrew Valdez had a home run, double, and a single with three RBI’s. Helping score ⅓ of the runs. The Bells produced five hits, seven RBI’s, and five walks. As they continue to help eachother out and have good situational hitting which is helping them win games. In the second inning is when the Bells began manufacturing runs off of the runners who were already on base. The runners got on base from a single, a walk, and an error by the opposing first baseman, which was perfect for Garner Christensen who knocked in all three runs off his first triple of the season. That put the score at 3-0. In behind him, Nate Kirkpatrick sends a flyball into the outfield scoring Christensen from third base, 4-0. The Riverhawks battled back in the fourth inning, putting up two runs against Wil Armbruester, leaving the score at 4-2.
The pitching staff for the Bells tonight was started by Armbruester who threw for five innings with four strikeouts. Armbruester had only one walk, helping the Bells keep the Riverhawks off the base path. Pitching from Armbruester stayed strong up until the fourth inning where he allowed his only two hits of the game. John Pfeffer and Nathan Van Beek came in for a couple innings in the middle of the game to relieve Armbruester, but unfortunately each allowed two runs. But it was not to worry since the Bells were still hot on the offensive side. James Trimble came in for the last inning and half and closed out strong with four strikeouts in six batters faced.
The Bells played hard all weekend long and won the series, but their roadtrip doesn’t end there. Bellingham looks to sweep the Victoria HarbourCats again, but this time on the HarbourCats home field with the first game on June 30th with first pitch 6:35 P.M.
