Bells win 4-3 after clutch double by Daryl Ruiz in extra innings
The Port Angeles starter was effective in the 7.1 innings he pitched and didn’t allow an earned run throughout his outing. The Bells deployed a bunch of pitchers getting their first or second appearances under their belt. Beginning with Will Anderson, who went five innings deep and racked up five strikeouts in the Bells final game.
Neither offense could get much going until the fourth inning, when Andrew Valdez was able to score after an overthrow by the shortstop of the Lefties. Valdez put himself in scoring position earlier in the inning after slicing an 0-2 pitch into the right-centerfield gap for his 10th double of the season.
On the mound for the Bells, Will Anderson followed up the offensive performance with a 1-2-3 inning to quickly get the offense back in action. After the fourth inning, Bellingham was up 1-0.
The Lefties were finally able to get to Anderson in the fifth inning. Recording back-to-back home runs to take the lead 2-1.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Dylan Myttenar took over for Will Anderson, and in his first opportunity of the season, he made the most of it. Getting out of the inning in 11 pitches and not allowing anyone to get into scoring position. He was able to get the first batter of the seventh inning out before turning the ball over to Evan Otte.
A two-out walk followed by a double was able to plate another run for Port Angeles, putting them up 3-1 going into the eighth inning.
Otte finished his day on a high note, getting his second strikeout of the day before the bullpen turned to Eli Kowlton to finish out the rest of the game.
Going into the ninth inning, the Bells needed two runs to push the game into extras, and they got them on a 2-RBI single by Colton Bower that was set up by a double steal by Colton Bower and Cole Yoshida that put them both in scoring position. After Kowlton worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the inning, the Bells and Lefties were going into extra innings.
It only took one inning to decide the winner after Daryl Ruiz launched a double into right center field that scored Brady Reynolds with ease. Eli Kowlton got the job done in the bottom half of the inning and recorded the win in the Bells (35-18) victory over the Lefties (13-40) 4-3.
With the #1 seed secured, the Bells will be taking on the #4 seed Kelowna Falcons in the first round of the divisional playoffs on August 8 at 6:35 p.m.
