Two Huskies Turn Bells for the 2024 Season
BELLINGHAM, WA — Tuesday, March 12, the Bellingham Bells announced that two University of Washington pitchers will be joining the team for the 2024 season.
Ethan Unruh is in his freshman year for the Huskies. Unruh attended Woodinville High School where he was the number four right-handed pitcher in Washington state according to Perfect Game.
Unruh stands at 6-foot-6 and he is best known for his fastball and changeup combination. The Woodinville local will travel north to play for the Bellingham Bells this summer.
“Ethan is a special arm, combining high velocity and a different arm slot to really make it tough on hitters. There’s a ton of potential for Ethan and we look forward to all of the contributions we know he will make as a Bell this summer,” Bells General Manager, Stephanie Morrell said.
Lane Simonsen is a future University of Washington Husky but currently a senior at Lynden High School. He is the number two right-handed pitcher in all of Washington according to Perfect Game.
Simonsen has earned two Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Year honors in three years at Lynden High School. Just last year he was playing at the Bells home, Joe Martin field, where the Lions took home the second place trophy in the 2A state championship game.
“Lane is a local talent, well known around Whatcom County for his impressive athletic ability.” Morrell said. “It’s always special to be able to welcome local players home to play for the Bells, and we know Lane is going to be a great addition to the team given his ability to throw strikes and really compete on the mound.”
The Bells will compete for a West Coast League Championship when their season opens May 31 vs the Edmonton Riverhawks.
