The Bellingham Bells lost 3-2 against the Bend Elks on Wednesday, July 3, at Joe Martin Field. With the win the Elks secured the series win and the Bells will try and salvage game three tomorrow at 4:35 p.m.

Tonight’s scoring came differently from both sides in comparison to what we’ve seen as of late at Joe Martin Field. The Bells struck first once again tonight with two runs in the third after Gavin Long reached on an error. Long was sent home by a hot hitting Roman Martin who would end up on third, despite his hit just being a single, due to a throw that went out of play. Martin would be sent home by a single from Jacob Mejia and the Bells would leave the third inning up 2-0.

Bend did what it has done in this series and fought back. The Elks tied the game in the very next half inning off of a two-run home run from Luke Reece in the top of the fourth. Will Anderson, who started tonight for the Bells, would pitch four innings and allow the two earned runs with five hits allowed and no walks to two strikeouts. As a pitching staff the Bells did not walk a single batter tonight but surrendered nine hits.

The Elks took a lead in the fifth inning against a debuting Justin Vose who would surrender the run off a Brian Duroff RBI single that scored Josh Wakefield who was at third after leading off with a single and stealing both second and third base. 

Nic Peterson entered the game with the Bells trailing 3-2 and the left-handed pitcher threw a four inning gem out of the bullpen. Peterson would only allow one baserunner in four innings with four strikeouts including a ninth inning where he struck out the side.

The Bells only totaled three hits, two were from Roman Martin who doubled and singled and the other one came from Jacob Mejia who had one single. Tonight was the debut of Tom Poole out of Dallas Baptist University. Poole went 0 for 3 at the plate but would reach once on a walk. 

The win went to the Elks Finn Edwards after Mason Edwards threw the first four innings with seven strikeouts during his start. Finn Edwards would pitch one scoreless inning on his way to his first win of the season. Brian Harbour pitched the rare three inning save and recorded his first save of the season. The Bells losing pitcher was Justin Vose in his first game as a Bellingham Bell.

Tomorrow night the Bells take on the Bend Elks in game three of a three-game series at Joe Martin Field. The Bells will look to secure their first win of the second half of the season as they currently are 0-2 in the second half with a 17-12 overall record. The Elks improved to 15-11 overall tonight and have one game left in their first half season.
