Third straight series win for Bellingham

The Bellingham Bells secured a series win over the Edmonton Riverhawks with a 9-2 Sunday, June 8 at RE/MAX Field in Edmonton. The Bells (6-3) have won the first three series of the season and will host Bend at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday at Joe Martin Field on College Night, where a college ID gets you in free.

The Bells offense exploded for a four-run fourth inning to begin the scoring. Noah Betanco hit an RBI double and scored on an error. Brock Sell hit a double to score another run and Chris Clement delivered an RBI single to gather a 4-0 lead.

Dylan Huntsman started and pitched two innings and allowed two hits walks with one strikeout. The offense continue to stack runs in the third inning on an RBI base hit by Bobby Pierce Jr. and another run-scoring hit by Sell.

Up 6-0, Caleb Cassie made his season debut and pitched two innings. Cassie allowed one run over three walks and two hits while striking out two Riverhawks.

The Bells scored again in the fifth on a Betanco sacrifice fly. Jared Hardie entered in the bottom of the inning to come in relief of Cassie and be in line for the win.

Another run scored in the sixth when Gavin Long took his turn hitting a sacrifice fly. Hardie finished the sixth inning with a scoreless outing, up 8-1.

In the seventh, the Bells scored for the third inning in a row when Alex Fernandes brought Pierce Jr. home on a double play ball that Fernandes beat out at first to secure the run.

Johnny Montgomery pitched the seventh and eighth innings and was hit hard for five base knocks that scored one run for Edmonton in the eighth.

Will Franklin pitched the ninth to take the 9-2 win and the series win for Bellingham. The Bells have won all of their three three-game series’s to begin the season 6-3.
