Bells open cross-divisional series with a win

The Bellingham Bells beat the Bend Elks 5-3 Tuesday, June 10 to begin a three-game home stand at Joe Martin Field. The Bells improved to 7-3 and will look to earn their fourth series win in tomorrow night’s game at 6:35 p.m.

Cal Young got the start and surrendered one early run in the first inning. The Bells offense had his back and had a three-run bottom half of the inning to answer immediately.

In the bottom of that first inning, Andrew Lamb delivered a two-RBI double in his first game with the Bells to score the first two runs. Nate Kirkpatrick brought Lamb home on an RBI single.

Bellingham did not take their foot off the gas pedal and scored two more runs in the second. Chris Clement scored after an error by the Elks pitcher and Lamb brought in another run with an RBI single.

Young finished his three-inning start with one earned run allowed on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Relieving him was Ty Van Dyke, who made his season debut with one scoreless inning in his return to Bellingham.

Miles Chandler pitched the next three innings and allowed two runs to score for Bend. Chandler gave up four hits and struck out two batters. Chandler earned the win since he took over in the fifth inning.

The Bells tallied nine hits throughout this game and took eight walks, but left 11 runners on base in the win. Colt Peterson made his Bells debut and pitched a six-out save to cap off the win.

Kirkpatrick led Bellingham with a 3-for-4 day at the plate that included an RBI. Lamb was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs. Alex Fernandes had two hits leading off and stole two bases while scoring a run.

The Bells face off against the South Division Elks tomorrow in a 6:35 p.m. contest where Bellingham aims to claim another series win to begin the 2025 season.
