Victoria stuns Bellingham on Friday
The Bellingham Bells began their six-game road trip with a 12-1 loss to the Victoria HarbourCats Friday, June 13 at Wilson’s Group Stadium in Victoria, British Columbia. Eight walks, nine hits and an error led to the blowout loss for Bellingham.
After walking the bases loaded in the first inning, Trevor Moore allowed a sacrifice fly that Gavin Long dropped out of his glove to score two runs for Victoria. A sacrifice fly brought in another run to cap off a three-run inning for the HarbourCats without recording a base hit.
Moore didn’t allow a hit in his three innings and struck out three HarbourCats. In the fourth inning, Sam Petrocelli entered and loaded the bases without gaining an out. Tyler Biddinger had to enter to finish the inning, but Victoria exploded for a five-run inning to go up 8-0.
Jared Hardie entered in the fifth and gave up two runs. He pitched a scoreless sixth, but the Bells trailed 10-0.
Bobby Pierce Jr. led off the seventh with a base hit and scored on a sacrifice fly from Brock Sell to score the first run for Bellingham in the game.
Johnny Montgomery entered for the bottom half of the seventh and gave up two hits but no runs. In the eighth he left two runners on base when Julian Herrera relieved him and they both scored to gain the 12-1 win for Victoria.
The Bells were led by Nico Azpilcueta, who went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double. Thursday’s walk-off hero Noah Cassie was 2-for-3 while Chris Clement and Pierce Jr. both picked up singles. Andrew Lamb and Long both had doubles as the Bells tallied nine hits.
Bellingham (9-4) looks to rebound tomorrow night against Victoria (7-6) in a 6:35 p.m. game where Ivan Rodriguez is scheduled to start for the Bells.
