Falcons take series in Kelowna

The Bellingham Bells lost their third game against the Kelowna Falcons 9-5 and the Bells lost their first series of the second half schedule. The Bells will have tomorrow off and return to Joe Martin Field for a 4th of July ballgame starting at 4:35 p.m. Friday.

The game began with Devyn Hernandez on the mound and the right hander surrendered an early run in the first inning. Bellingham tied the game in the second on a sacrifice fly from Bobby Pierce Jr.

Aiden Aguayo’s hot road trip continue with a two-RBI double in the fourth. Kelowna answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the same inning.

The Bells gained a lead again in the fifth on an RBI double from Azpilcueta and another RBI by Pierce Jr. Hernandez exited his five-inning start leading 5-3 with three runs allowed, which matched his season total entering this start, on seven hits and one walk. He struck out three.

Josh Flaugher came in relief and gave up a solo home run in the sixth. The Falcons got to Flaugher in the seventh and scored four runs with the help of two errors to lead 8-5. Carter Herrera made his debut finishing the seventh and gave up one unearned run in the eighth.

Aguayo led Bellingham with a 2-for-4 performance that included two RBIs. Aguayo is now batting .311 as his hot bat looks to stay warm heading home for six games. Logan Degroot was 2-for-5 with two doubles as he made his Bells return this series appearing in all three games.

Pierce Jr. picked up two RBIs in a 1-for-3 night and Azpilcueta was 1-for-5 at the plate with his lone RBI double.

The Bells (19-11) still lead the North Division, but have started the second half of the season 1-2. Bellingham faces off against Port Angeles this Friday to begin a three-game series this weekend.
