Bells sweep NorthPaws on Sunday

The Bellingham Bells earned a series sweep over the Kamloops NorthPaws with a 8-2 win Sunday, July 13 at Norbrock Stadium in Kamloops, British Columbia. Nico Azpilcueta hit four RBIs as four pitchers combined to allow just five combined hits in the win.

Carter Herrera got the start and was gifted a 3-0 lead before taking the mound after Azpilcueta hit a two-RBI double. Herrera let up one unearned run in the bottom of the fourth but finished his start with five strikeouts to no walks and three hits allowed.

The bullpen was shutdown tonight. In the fifth, PJ Wendler made his Bells debut with a hitless frame where he only let up a walk. Azpilcueta knocked in two more runs on a single to give the Bells a 5-1 lead entering the bottom of the sixth.

Josh Flaugher took the mound for the next three innings and pitched them scoreless. Flaugher allowed only a walk and a hit while striking out two in his three innings of relief.

The Bells scored two more runs in the top of the eighth on three straight hits by Andrew Lamb, Noah Meffert and Nate Kirkpatrick. Aiden Aguayo touched home in the ninth on an RBI groundout from Lamb to give Tyler Biddinger a 8-1 lead entering the ninth.

Biddinger gave up one run on a hit and two walks while striking out one. The Bells tallied nine hits, two from Lamb, Meffert, Azpilcueta and Noah Figuered.

Today’s game was the final game ahead of the All-Star game, so the full team won’t be back in action until Friday, July 18 to begin a three-game series against the Victoria HarbourCats in Bellingham.
