A walk-off win Saturday night
Box Score | Bellingham Bells Roster | WCL Standings
The Bellingham Bells walked off the Victoria HarbourCats on a game-winning error to win 2-1 Saturday, July 19 at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. Nate Kirkpatrick hit a ground ball that resulted in a throwing error on Tanner Beltowski to walk it off for Bellingham.
Cal Young made the start for the Bells and was his usual dominant self. Young went 4.1 innings and left the game with a 1-0 lead after allowing two walks in the fifth. Will Franklin was able to pitch the rest of the fifth scoreless so Young finished his outing with five strikeouts and no runs on one hit and two walks. Young had retired the HarbourCats 1-2-3 in the second, third and fourth innings.
The Bells earned their early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the third inning from Aiden Aguayo after Rominic Quiban had walked, stolen second and moved up to third on a groundout.
Franklin finished the sixth scoreless and exited 1.2 innings with three strikeouts to no hits and two walks allowed. Tyler Biddinger pitched the seventh and eighth innings. He surrendered Victoria’s first run of the game in the eighth after a Jack Johnson single.
Colt Peterson left the game resting in the hands of the Bells batters after a scoreless ninth where he struck out one and allowed two hits.
In the ninth, Andrew Lamb laid down a cheeky bunt single to get aboard. Noah Figuered pinch ran for Lamb and moved up to second base on a balk against Victoria’s pitcher. With two outs, Nate Kirkpatrick hit a routine ground ball to short. Beltowski’s throw went up the first base line and out of the reach of the first baseman Johnson and Figuered hustled around third to score.
The Bells had just three hits coming from Lamb, Noah Meffert and Brock Sell, but earned the win nonetheless to even the three-game series and set up a rubber match tomorrow, Sunday July 20 at 1:35 p.m. The Bells will be on the road for three games against the Port Angeles Lefties following tomorrow’s game.
