Kirkpatrick launches two homers in dominant win
Box Score | Bellingham Bells Roster | WCL Standings
The Bellingham Bells opened their three-game series in Port Angeles with a dominating 13-2 win over the Lefties Tuesday, July 22 at Civic Field in Port Angeles, Wash. Nate Kirkpatrick picked up seven RBI in a 4-for-5 night at the plate that included two home runs.
The Bells began the game with a ridiculous nine-run first inning. Aiden Aguayo picked up two RBI on a double and Kirkpatrick launched his first home run of the game to gift the starter Preston Watkins with a generous lead before taking the mound.
Watkins went on to pitch four innings and allowed two runs on two hits while striking out five. Brock Sell delivered an RBI in the top of the fifth to give Ben McKinnon a 10-2 lead when he made his debut in the bottom of the inning. McKinnon went on to pitch two scoreless innings and earn the win after allowing just one hit and striking out one batter.
Josh Flaugher took over in the seventh and pitched two scoreless innings while picking up three punch outs and only allowing one hit. In the top of the eight, Kirkpatrick launched a three-run home run to give the Bells their 13-2 lead.
PJ Wendler finished the game in the ninth and surrendered the pitching staff’s only walk of the game, but gave up no hits or runs and struck out two. The pitching staff allowed four hits, one walk and struck out 11 Lefties in the win.
Along with Kirkpatrick’s big day, the Bells scattered 10 hits as a team with Noah Cassie and Logan Degroot picking up two each with one double each as well.
The Bells will look to carry this momentum into game two versus the Lefties on Wednesday, July 23 at Civic Field in Port Angeles. Devyn Hernandez is Bellingham’s scheduled starter as the 28-15 Bells look to keep hold of their three-game lead in the North Division.
