Bells crush NightOwls in final regular season game

The Bellingham Bells capped off the 2025 regular season with a dominating 18-1 win over the Nanaimo NightOwls Wednesday, August 6 at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. Chihiro Sato made a stellar start collecting a season-high six strikeouts over five hitless innings on his way to earning his fourth win this summer.
Noah Figuered began the avalanche of scoring with an RBI single in the second. Nanaimo committed four defensive errors tonight. Their first helped the Bells score four runs in the fourth inning to lead 5-0.
Two more runs scored in the fifth after an RBI from Brock Sell and another run-costing error for the NightOwls. Johnny Montgomery took over for the two innings after Sato’s start and allowed one run in the seventh.
The Bells before that crushed a seven-run sixth inning that began with a Gavin Long solo home run and was capped off by a three-run home run by Aiden Aguayo. Two errors helped extend that inning for Bellingham to pull ahead 14-0.
After seeing the NightOwls put up their lone run of the game in the top of the seventh, Blake Balsz smoked his first home run against a West Coast League opponent, but his second of the summer with Bellingham, and the Bells led 15-1.
Jared Hardie tossed a scoreless eighth and the Bells continued to stack runs against Nanaimo with a three-run eighth inning. Ben McKinnon finished the regular season with a scoreless ninth and the Bells finished the 2025 season 33-21, which earned them second place in the North Division.
Bellingham was led by Gavin Long, who went 2-for-5 at the plate with five RBIs. The offense collected 12 hits tonight as Nate Kirkpatrick was 3-for-6 and had the most of any Bell. Blake Balsz went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and Aiden Aguayo collected four RBIs in a 1-for-6 night.
Bellingham now moves onto the WCL Playoffs where they will face the Wenatchee AppleSox in the opening round best-of-three series beginning Friday, August 8 at Paul Thomas Field in Wenatchee, Wash. The Bells come home for games two and three (if necessary) and tickets are on sale at bellstickets.com.
