KELOWNA — The Bellingham Bells improved to 2-0 on the season after an 8-6 win over the Kelowna Falcons on Saturday, May 30 at Elks Stadium. A three-run ninth inning helped the Bells earn a series win on the road to open the 2026 season.

After a walk from Tyler Peshke, Noah Cassie launched a two-run home run to get the Bells on the board in the first inning. Jorge Olivera-Gutierrez doubled with two outs in the frame and Matt Churchill swapped spots with him on an RBI double that gave the Bells a 3-0 lead.

Cal Young toed the rubber as the Bells starter and tossed his first two innings scoreless. Bryce Johnson stole home after singling earlier in the third inning to give Bellingham a 4-0 lead. Young allowed three runs in the bottom of the inning after two singles and a two-run home run by the Falcons. Talon McGrorty made his season debut and finished off the inning with the Bells leading 4-3.

McGrorty didn’t allow a hit or walk through the next three innings and finished 3-1/3 innings scoreless. The Falcons tagged Thrasher Steed for two runs in the seventh, which gave Kelowna a 5-4 lead.

Aspen Alexander crushed a solo home run in the eighth inning, but the Falcons responded with a home run off of JJ Martinson and the Bells trailed 6-5 entering the final inning.

Cassie was hit by a pitch, Johnson singled and Olivera-Gutierrez got hit by a pitch to load the bases in the top of the ninth. Churchill attacked the first pitch he saw and drove in two runs on his second double of the night. Tyson McGrorty hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to give Bellingham its 8-6 lead that became final when Martinson finished the game with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth.

Churchill led the Bells with four hits and three RBI. Tristan Schaefer had a double as part of a two-hit night. Cassie, Johnson and Olivera-Gutierrez all scored twice. The Bells four-man pitching staff only allowed one walk all night.
