Bellingham wins fourth straight series with 10-7 victory over Lefties
PORT ANGELES — The Bellingham Bells earned a series win over the Port Angeles lefties with a 10-7 victory Wednesday, June 17 at Civic Field in Port Angeles. The Bells have won their last four series and aim for a sweep in Thursday’s game at 6:35 p.m.
The Bells 10-run night began with a three-run home run by Matt Churchill in the first inning. Port Angeles got two runs back in the bottom of the first against Bellingham’s starter David Wiser. The Lefties took a 4-3 lead with two runs off Wiser in the third and Cal Young had to finish the frame from the bullpen.
A four-run fourth inning by Bellingham gave the Bells a 7-4 lead after Jaden Jackson launched a three-run home run in his debut and Jorge Olivera-Gutierrez singled in a run. Port Angeles tagged Kenneth Johnson for one run in the bottom of the inning.
Bellingham plated two more runs in the fifth inning after Churchill scored and Rashad Hayes drove in a run. Johnson was tagged for two more runs, but went on to earn the win after exiting his three relief innings up 9-7.
In the seventh inning, Jackson scored on a double play groundout from Olivera-Gutierrez. The Bells led 10-7 when Zach Elsos entered in relief and pitched two scoreless innings. Elsos didn’t allow a hit and struck out two Lefties.
Frank Willius took the ball for the ninth and picked up his third save of the summer with a perfect inning that featured two strikeouts. Bellingham improved to 11-6 and is hunting its first sweep of the season in Thursday’s 6:35 p.m. game.
Aspen Alexander led the Bells in hits with three and he scored once. Hayes was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run. Olivera-Gutierrez collected two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Bryce Johnson went 2-for-5 at the plate with a run scored. Churchill’s lone hit was a three-run home run and he touched home plate twice. Moss had two hits and two runs scored. Jackson had an impressive debut with two hits, three RBI, two runs scored and a home run. In total the Bells had 15 hits as a team.
Bellingham has one final game in Port Angeles before returning to Joe Martin Field to face the Kamloops NorthPaws on Friday, June 19 at 6:35 p.m. Tickets are on sale at bellstickets.com.
