Bellingham walked off and swept by Edmonton
EDMONTON — The Bellingham Bells were walked off by the Edmonton Riverhawks in the 10th inning of a 6-5 loss on Thursday, July 2 at RE/MAX Field. With the loss, the Bells were swept for the first time of the season.
The game started with the Bells establishing a 1-0 lead in the third inning for starter Lathan Haywood. Jaden Jackson hit a sacrifice fly in the inning to score Rashad Hayes. Haywood finished 3-2/3 innings with no runs allowed despite four hits and three walks issued.
Gavin Hasche pitched the next 2-1/3 innings and kept the Riverhawks off the scoreboard. Jake Lyall had an RBI single in the sixth to score Aspen Alexander. Bellingham made it 4-0 with RBIs from Hayes and Alexander in the seventh.
Thrasher Steed pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth to get the game into the ninth with Bellingham up 4-0. Steed was brought back out for the ninth and gave up a walk and two hits to begin the inning. Cal Young entered with two runners on base and a 4-1 lead for Bellingham.
The Riverhawks tied the game with a hit-by-pitch and two hits off Young in the ninth. Lyall gave the Bells a 5-4 lead in the 10th with a single to center field. Braden Blackwell looked for the save in the bottom of the 10th, but Edmonton scored both of their free baserunners to walk it off.
Lyall was the only Bell with multiple hits and had two RBI. Alexander had a hit, RBI and two runs scored. Nate Johnson was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Hayes had one hit, run and RBI. Noah Cassie, Bryce Johnson and Matt Churchill had one hit each.
Bellingham has a long journey ahead of them before tomorrow’s 6:35 p.m. game at Nanaimo. The Bells and NightOwls have a three-game weekend series to finish off the nine-game road trip for Bellingham.
